Hello Microsoft,

I tried to use a feature that Outlook Express has, to get music to
automatically begin to play when someone opens an Outlook email that is sent
by me, but I can not get this feature to work.

I have tried to research this problem online, and have read dozens of
comments from others that experienced the same thing. (I am using Outlook
Express 6.)

My hope for getting this feature to work lies in my desire to send emails
with soothing, comforting music to someone who is very ill, so your help in
addressing this would be oh so very appreciated!

This is what I did, in following the instructions:

Opened Outlook Express. Clicked on Create Mail. Typed an email message.
Clicked on Format. Clicked on Background. Clicked on Sound. The Background
Sound window appeared. In the Background Sound window, clicked on Browse.
Navigated to the folder that contains the sound/music file I wanted to add to
the email. Then double clicked on the sound/music file I wanted to add to the
email. Then clicked on OK. Then clicked send email.

As soon as I clicked on "send", I got this message: "One or more of the
pictures in this message could not be found. When you send this message these
pictures will not be included. Are you sure you want to send this message?"
(Note - there's no pictures in the email, just text and the option of sending
the background music.)

The only way to send the message is to press "OK".

However, it doesn't seem to work. The recipient doesn't hear any music
playing when they open the email.

I tried "attaching" the song as an attachment, but that doesn't help,
either. (The music is an mp3 file.)

Might you know how to get this to work? (Even as far as not getting the
message of "One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found.
When you send this message these pictures will not be included. Are you sure
you want to send this message?")

(Remember that you can't literally test it from the same computer you sent
it from, because the email can just reference the music in your personal file
that you pulled it from, and make you think that it's really working. :)
The email has to be opened by someone at a different computer.) [The other
thing to remember is to turn your sound on before opening the email, if you
normally have it turned off.]

I have done a little trouble-shooting, and have made sure that the "Send
Pictures with Message" is enabled on the menu bar, under Format, but that did
not solve the problem. I can hear the song playing in the background as I
compose the email, but as I mentioned, it does not play when it is received
by the recipient. The size of the email, when it is received, is only 10kb,
so it is obvious that the song is not being sent along with it.

Is there someone who might be able to get this feature to work? Or who
might know a workaround? (I know you can edit the HTML by going to "View" on
the menu bar and enabling "Source Edit", and then clicking on the "Source"
tab.) (But this is too advanced for me!)

Is there a fix that could be attended to?

If there is a fix, is it something that needs (or will be needed) to be
downloaded manually, or will it be part of an automatic update to the
operating system? (Thus, I'm asking how to find out about the fix.) [If
it's at all possible, you can email to my account associated with my posting,
if it's accessible to you. If not, I can post one, if necessary. It would
be wonderful if you could post the update about a fix to this thread, too!!]

I just can't tell you what your looking into this means to me!

Thank you oh so much! I just appreciate it so!

With so much gratitude,

-- Karen

I use this feature all the time. Click on FORMAT and select BACKGROUND and
then select SOUND. The default sound format is wav, wma, etc. The dropdown
menu allows you to select MIDI so select that and find the song you want to
use. It's that simple!

I use this feature a lot and love it. You can't add mp3's for the background
sound. It only will work for .wav's or midi files. I go another step farther
by converting the .wav file to a layer3 to make it even a smaller file, but
it will work without the conversion. I only wish that Microsoft Outlook had
the features to make your own stationery and use background music like
Outlook Express, Especially since the Windows 7 software doesn't include a
mail program.

Unfortunately, Microsoft isn't user oriented.

Did you install Live Essentials for that OS? Then have a look at Live Writer
to substitute for the lack of Stationery support in other products.
