sounds like you installed microsoft office2007.. it replaces the dictionary
with one thats not compatible with outlook express

Q. I just installed Microsoft Office Professional 2007. Now whenever I use
the spell checker in Outlook Express, it says all the words are misspelled.
When I checked Tools, Options, Spelling and looked under Languages, it
showed the language as French and it won't let me change it. I assume the
reason Outlook Express is showing everything misspelled is because of this
setting. How can I correct?

A. Sacré bleu! You say your spell checker speaks no English? I suppose you
could always take this opportunity to learn a foreign language, or at least
brush up on your conversational French.

But seriously . . . You are correct in your assumption that the language
setting is causing the spell checker to malfunction.

As it turns out, Office 2007 installs some language files that are
incompatible with Outlook Express. Even if you uninstall Office 2007 it does
not restore your old language files so that's no help.

Microsoft acknowledges this in KB932974 and the only recourse they offer is
to install a third party spell checker.

Spell Checker For OE from Snapfiles is free and should take care of your
problem.

Once you install this free utility you might find that you have the option
to spell check in both English and French.

It is, how you say? Magnifique!
